Season Analysis

Alongside the work that Shrewsbury Town in the Community do within schools, we also provide opportunities for students to join a higher education pathway. This is done through work alongside Shrewsbury Colleges Group and the University of South Wales to deliver BTEC, Foundation Degree, and BSc Degree qualifications.

The BTEC programme runs in partnership with Shrewsbury Colleges Group and provides 16-18 year olds the opportunity to gain coaching qualifications alongside their main programme; studying units such as anatomy and physiology, sports development and performance analysis. Students will also get the chance to represent Shrewsbury Town Football Club, with the elite squad playing in the national CEFA league along with teams including Manchester City, Blackburn, and Preston. There is also a development team which competes within the local Shropshire Colleges league.

After completing the BTEC, Shrewsbury Town offer students the chance to continue their education to university level with their foundation degree, running in partnership with the University of South Wales, USW, and the EFL Trust. The course allows students to study all sub-disciplines of coaching whilst gaining on-the-job experience within the programmes delivered by Shrewsbury Town in the Community.

During 2018, Shrewsbury Town in the Community also launched their new volunteer academy, which allows anyone between the ages of 14 and 24 who are interested in pursuing a career in sport an opportunity to volunteer within an active sporting charity. Participants can volunteer across a range of programmes, including physical education, football coaching, disability sport, media and communications, fundraising or events, and make a positive difference to the work that Shrewsbury Town in the Community do.

“The degree programme appealed to me because of the impact I could make in the local community. Since joining in 2017 I have had some fantastic opportunities which I am very grateful for. The support from my mentors here has been fantastic and they have helped me improve my confidence, communication and motivation to succeed. The degree programme at Shrewsbury Town in the Community has allowed me to realise my potential and achieve my goals.”
